Nurses

School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being, academic success and life-long achievement and health of students. To that end, school nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety including a healthy environment; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self advocacy, and learning (NASN, 2010)

As of March 24, 2025, the school nurses implemented an additional way of keeping parents informed of their student’s visits to the nurse’s office. Some office visits will now be reported to parents via an automatic email that will be sent to the email the parent provided at registration. Parents will still receive personal phone calls from the nurses for certain visits, the same as in the past. If a parent is personally notified of a visit, an email will not be sent. The email will have a very brief description of the reason for the visit (usually only 1 word). If a parent would like more information on the visit, feel free to contact Nurse Chris or Nurse Dallas. Scheduled routine visits or visits by students that have chronic medical conditions will be communicated to their parents in the same manner as in the past.
