School Bus Expectations

Both students and parents must understand that riding the school bus is not a student’s right... it is a privilege.

Waiting for the Bus
  • Stay on sidewalks or side of road
  • Keep hands, feet, and objects to self
  • Wait for driver directions or signal
  • Follow driver directions
  • Line up appropriately
  • Take care of your personal property
  • Greet the bus driver, bus paras & peers
  • Be respectful of others and their property

 

Entering the Bus
  • Wait for driver direction or bus
  • Use  handrail if needed
  • Be seated quickly
  • Sit near window if on first
  • Remain seated at all times
  • Give personal space to others

 

Riding the Bus
  • Stay seated
  • Keep aisles & emergency exits clear of anything
  • Keep self and objects inside the bus
  • Snacks and food are allowed but not to be shared
  • Follow para and driver directions at all times
  • All trash needs to be thrown away and area clean
  • Keep hands, feet and objects to self
  • Use school appropriate language and conversation topics
  • Raise hand if you need  the bus para
  • Ask permission to open windows or move for any reason

 

Exiting the Bus
  • Take turns leaving the bus
  • Move to a safe spot away from bus
  • Wait for driver and para directions
  • Stay seated until doors open
  • Take belongings with you
  • Keep arm’s length between you and person in front of you

 

Building Relationships
  • Report accidents or possible accidents
  • Help others when needed
  • Use appropriate greetings
  • Use STEP Problem Solving steps
  • Use appropriate language and topic of conversation
  • Use a quiet voice (Level 1)
  • Report any problems or harmful behavior immediately

 

Evacuating
  • Stay quiet
  • Listen for directions
  • Leave belongings on bus
  • Follow bus driver and bus para directions
  • Help others when appropriate
  • Follow all safety rules
  • Exit quickly and safely

 

Electronic Devices
  • Keep electronic devices to self
  • Electronic devices can be used to listen to music, play games, call, text, and watch videos
  • Use appropriate websites, games and apps
  • Use good digital citizenship practices
  • Electronic devices are not to be shared with others
  • Use appropriate volume
  • Use headphones when necessary
