"Silver" Route for Mountain View Students Living in Lyman

Uinta 4 WILL be offering a bus route for our families who live in the Lyman school district. This bus route will start on the first day of school. The new bus route is called the Silver route. Details can be found on the district website here, then navigate to the Silver Bus tab (last one).

We are not picking up each student at their door but using more centralized bus stops. The times posted are approximate, especially at the beginning of the year, and may change to better meet the needs of our students riding that bus as the year goes on. Please allow 3-5 minutes per stop as we establish the routines of this new route.

If you have any questions about this bus route, please contact Brian Deru, Transportation Director at 307.782.3260.

Guidance on Repeal of Gun Free Zones

On July 1 of this year, Wyoming Statute 6-8-104, the Repeal of Gun Free Zones, went into effect allowing a person with a valid Wyoming concealed carry permit to carry a concealed weapon to come onto a public school campus. This law allows those in the general public as well as teachers, staff, and volunteers in schools to carry a concealed firearm on school grounds. Uinta County School District #4 takes the safety of our students and staff is our number one responsibility.

Uinta 4 administrators have already met with our school board, local law enforcement, and our school district attorney, as well as consulting with other school districts in the state about how to navigate this issue of concealed carry on campus. We have had numerous discussions with our school board about how to best navigate this issue so that the safety of our students and staff remains our number one priority.

Under the current law as of July 1, 2025 only individuals with a valid Wyoming concealed carry permit issued under W.S. § 6-8-104(a)(ii) may lawfully carry a concealed weapon on school grounds, unless otherwise prohibited by law. This includes employees and volunteers, but not students. The following categories are NOT permitted to carry a concealed weapon on campus under current law:

  1. Any individual without a valid concealed carry permit;
  2. Any student enrolled in an elementary or secondary school;
  3. Any person carrying openly or storing firearms improperly (i.e., not on their person or not in a secured container under their direct control).

It is important for our community to understand that any kind of open carry on school campuses is prohibited. The expectation is that if a community member has a valid concealed carry permit and they choose to carry on campus that firearm remains concealed. Should it become obvious that someone is carrying a firearm on our campus law enforcement may be contacted.

We ask our community, visitors, and staff to help us navigate this concealed carry law responsibly and professionally as we work to ensure the safety of our students and staff during the school day and at school events. Guidance from our school district attorney for all school stakeholders can be found here, on our Public Notices page. Any community member with questions about this law is welcome to email me at the email address below.
