Emergency School Closure Procedures

Uinta 4 is now using Alert Solutions’ SwiftK12 school notification system to manage communication

Instantly and reliably, SwiftK12 allows the District to send voice, e-mail, social media and text alerts using real-time contact information from PowerSchool – making it the most integrated school notification system on the market today.

The District no longer makes emergency closure notifications via Uinta County CodeRED.

Below you will find the procedures that Uinta County School District Four will follow in the event there is a need for emergency school closure due to adverse weather conditions.

Emergency closure information will be communicated via the SwiftK12 School Notification System, our district website (uinta4.com), Uinta 4's Facebook page, and the radio stations listed below. Please check with your child’s school to update your contact information in PowerSchool. Additionally, each building should have procedures developed to assist in the notification of employees regarding the status of school closures.

Option 1 Full Closure: When this option is implemented, students and staff members are not required to attend school. This day will be made up on a date to be decided at a later time after consulting with the Wyoming Department of Education.

Option 2 Late Start Time: When this option is utilized, school officials will work with the Uinta County Road Department and district transportation personnel to determine if students and staff members can travel safely to their school sites. School will begin at 10:00 a.m. If it is determined that safe travel cannot be established by 10:00 a.m., the district will close school for the entire day. In some instances certain students or staff members may not be able to gain access to their school sites. The district will communicate with individual families when it is apparent that they may not be transported to school because of drifting snow or other weather conditions. Staff members will be provided substitutes if these same conditions exist for them. Food services will be in operation on these late start dates.

Option 3 Early Dismissal: When the weather conditions begin to deteriorate after students have already arrived at a school site, the district will communicate with the Uinta County Road Department and district transportation personnel to determine if the road conditions necessitate the early release of students. Students will be transported as safely as possible with all necessary precautions considered. Staff members will be released only after all students have left the building site. Food service for students and staff will depend on the time that the decision to close the schools is announced.

Please contact your building principals if you have further questions regarding these procedures.
